Karla Knotts, Innovation Award Judge

Karla Knotts graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Fine Arts.  But her education alone does not fully tell her story.

Currently, Karla is owner of Land Matters and serves as the sole proprietor of this consulting and brokerage firm.  Some of the projects undertaken by the company include but are not limited to the following:

  • Analysis of the competitive attached and detached housing market to determine pricing and estimated sale pace for a proposed townhome community.
  • Evaluation of the competitive positioning for proposed housing united in the Vance Township of Union County and identification of market opportunities for optimum absorption in an over-supplied market.
  • Analysis of a Belmont, NC site as it related to current and planned Traditional Neighborhood Development in the competitive five-county area and residential development nearby.
  • Evaluation and report on the effect of NCDOT condemnation on the ability to develop the remainder of the property.

Knotts is also co-Owner and Vice President of Knotts Development Resources, Inc. / Knotts Builders of NC, a residential land development and single-family home construction company. Projects include development, acquisition and / or sales of neighborhoods in Charlotte, Indian Trail, Matthews, and Huntersville.

Prior to these two business ventures, Knotts served in executive positions in the real estate industry including positions with Pulte Home Corporation, The Crosland Group and Homecraft Land Development in Dallas, Texas.

Knotts’ accomplishments are far too many to list on this platform.  However, it should be noted that she has authored the NC Real Estate Commission Continuing Education Elective – Land Development.  She holds a number of positions and appointments in relevant trade associations both on the local and state level.  Her regulatory / industry involvement includes serving on the City of Charlotte Subdivision Steering Committee, Housing Charlotte 2007 Inclusionary Housing Subcommittee, City of Charlotte User Fee Stakeholder Group, City of Charlotte Stakeholder Group General Development Policies committee, and the City of Charlotte Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Stakeholder Group.

Most noticeably, Knotts was inducted into the NC Housing Hall of Fame in 2021.  She is a member of the Institute of Residential Marketing (MIRM) and was awarded this honor in 1993.  In addition, she is a licensed Real Estate Broker in both North Carolina and South Carolina.
