IMPORTANT COMMUNITY MESSAGE
Our community and communities across the state and country are grieving and in despair over the inhumanity witnessed in recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery as well as others. Our deepest sympathies are with their families and the other families who have experienced the physical and emotional pain of systemic racial and economic discrimination.
The Canopy Realtor® community is reflective of the diversity of our nation, our state and our community. Within our membership of over 12,400, we represent a multitude of races, nationalities, ages, lifestyles and beliefs. We are advocates of fair housing, inclusion, fair treatment and equality for all. We dedicate our days and nights working to place people in homes – homes that should represent safety and security. Despite our highest aspirations, the truth is that not everyone is afforded the same safety, security, civil rights and economic opportunities.
As Realtors® and as community leaders it is important now more than ever that we commit to leading the way on policies that address racial inequality, systemic discrimination and economic disparity. Let’s be intentional in advocating for change that holds us accountable and champions programs that support inclusion and racial and economic equality. We have a responsibility to our membership, our community and future generations to put forth positive actions rather than just words.
Canopy Realtor® Association, along with NC REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®, stands by to do what we can to lift our communities.
Signed,
Canopy Realtor® Association, Canopy MLS and Canopy Housing Foundation Executive Committee
